On the 1st April other OS was removed by Sony “due to security concerns” After this the PS3 scene slowed to a crawl then with very little to move it forward. Geohot claims he is leaving the scene due to getting the blame for the loss of other os.

About august out of the blue a new PS3 Jailbreak dongle was announced. This was massive news and was front page on the main sites within hours. Many sites were initially claiming it would be a fake. More reputable online stores backed it up with claims they had pre release versions. Even at over 100 dollars all stores received many pre orders. The huge demand saw many people without a dongle for weeks. The key problem was fixed with firmware 3.56 released quickly by Sony This blocked unknown USB devices from working. With the USB port now blocked the dongle wouldnt work on newer firmware. But it did mean however all games up to that point could now be backed up. PSN always required the latest firmware version to connect. Many big game releases for the coming christmas were going to require newer firmware. Gran Turismo 5 was the first big release not to work. It required firmware 3.50 to run and this means no dongles could work.

It took a while to get the game working by patching the eboot but by Christmas it was payable. CCC saw failoverflow announce to the world Sony's mistake in public key generating. The fail in the key algorithm was public news by the following day with the console security apparently beaten. The first true PS3 “hello world” released by Geohot on 1st January Not long after that he released his jailbreak pup. This one small pup file patched out the key checks enabling both homebew and PSN access. Backups were challenging but feasible with this jailbreak. One infamous CFW from Wanikoto caused many bricks but most went for the Keamw release.

A long two months passed with CFW users able to access PSN with no problems. Suddenly cheating was a real problem with online games for the PS3 Meanwhile Sony were working behind the scenes to change things. During this time a hacker quietly gained access to the PSN account server. The details of 50 million PSN users were stolen PSN was quickly shut down when news broke of the hack. PS3 users were without PSN for nearly two months. Additional security for the sign in to PSN presented a fresh problem for CFW PS3's As once more cfw users were locked to an older firmware. The next releases of games need the new updated firmware.

And the stalemate situation continued Everything changed with the release of the TruBlue dongle. This shady company locked the eboots so they would only run with the dongle. Only Paradox were releasing the Eboots for these games so some say they were involved with the dongle. A little later duplex started releasing PSN games having somehow cracked the newer keys. The exact method TureBlue were using to resign the Eboots could only be guessed at, something sort of confirmed a bit later as the 3.60 keys themselves were leaked. This definitely marked another rise in activity on the ps3 scene. Obviously Duplex didnt like the built in DRM of the TB dongle and commenced to try to crack it. Amazingly, they succeeded and then started releasing tb free eboots. True Blue themselves released a statement that they would be updating the dongle and releasing 4.11 games. so far no updates from them have been made Maybe this is the last we have seen of TB! Probably not. Of course also at this time many people missed the news they could convert to a debug console. The advantage of a debug console is it can easily run any homebrew with no keys at all. Debug units are tied to the Dev Network though so no PSN for DEX users. For PSN access and game backups there is only really one option Firmware 4.21 needs to be jailbroken. That way online gaming is kept as well as the ability to run the latest games.
