PTFE

PTFE or polytetrafluoroethylene is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that was accidentally invented by Roy plunkett, a research chemist du Pont chemical company. It is popularly known as Teflon, brand name given by DuPont.

PTFE is a white thermoplastic polymer that is formed by fluorine and carbon bonds. It has very low coefficient of friction, the third lowest of any solid material. Because of this it is often used for applications where sliding action of parts is needed. When used for products like plain bearings, gears, slide plates it gives comparatively better performance than nylon and acetal. PTFE is often used to coat non-stick frying pans as it is hydrophobic and possesses fairly high heat resistance.

Being a chemically inert and non reactive substance it is used in chemical applications like chemical corrosion prevention, handling corrosive fluids, preparing rings, sheets, fittings, pumps, pipes, gaskets, expansion joints, bellow, dip tubes, valve seats, nozzles and mechanical seals which are often attacked by corrosion. Because of its self lubricating properties it is often used in moving parts as piston rings in non lubricating compressors, metal bearings for speed. One of the best properties of PTFE is that it has high melting point and therefore does not melt easily.

Teflon is used for various applications in different industries. It is often used in electric applications as insulator in cables and connector assemblies because of dielectric and insulating properties. Various components of PTFE are used in semi conductor industry for chip manufacturing and for heaters and many times in laboratories because of their chemical inert properties. Virgin PTFE, approved by FDA is used in food, beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries for manufacture of components like guide rails and slides which can withstand high temperatures in ovens and heated segments in manufacturing processes. Glass filled PTFE can be cut or stamped into bearing pads that act as inert interfaces between various constructions material such as steel & concrete.

Teflon Manufacturers

There are number of manufacturers of Teflon across the world and especially in India. The Teflon Indian manufacturers who are involved in processing and exporting the Teflon coated products often supply high quality Teflon rods, sheets, bushes which have a wide industrial use in industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, electronics, electrical, atomic energy, aeronautics etc. One can also find products made of different filled grades of PTFE like carbon, glass, bronze, graphite, mos2 and alumina with them. They usually offer these at competitive prices in custom specifications of customers.
