Parenting is one of the most difficult and rewarding jobs anyone will ever have. A little patience and persistence will pay off. When you set rules, make sure they are age appropriate and easily understood. Punishment should be consistent, practical and explained to children. It's imperative to be a parent to your child. They already have plenty of friends. Read on for more tips.

If your child has been making frequent trips to the school nurse, only to be sent back because there is no apparent illness, he or she may be trying to avoid a classroom bully. Ask your child if he or she is having problems with a classmate; you can also directly contact your child's teacher to determine whether there may be a troublesome conflict between another student and your child.

Thunderstorms can be frightening to young children. Next time a storm rolls through, yell "BOOM" and laugh as the thunder claps, and encourage your little one to do the same. The next time a storm rolls through your child will think it's a game because you showed her how not to be afraid.

While television definitely can be a helpful tool in several different ways, make sure that you do not rely on it as your only way to keep kids occupied around the house. Encourage other activities such as playing or listening to music, reading, working on art projects, or engaging in role playing activities like playing dress-up or cooking, and help your child's mind grow.

Encourage your child to be as independent as they can. By teaching a child to depend on you instead of themselves, they will grow up thinking it is okay to rely on others for things they can do themselves. This could prevent them from developing healthy relationships as an adult.

If you have multiple children, you and your spouse or partner should each plan one-on-one time with each child. Your "dates" might include accompanying you on trips to the store, going out for ice cream, or other activities. Your children will relish in the individual attention, and they will appreciate being able to talk to you about their lives without interruption from their siblings.

As a parent you want to see your child succeed. Early academics may seem like the way to put them on the path to success. The media tend to tout this. But child development professionals do not. The child under 6 or 7 needs lots of running and playing (large motor activity) to develop his or her brain and learning potential. Early reading does not lead to later academic success.

When riding in the car, keep your baby in a rear facing car seat as long as you possibly can. While industry standards recommend turning the seat to front facing around the age of 12 months, the risk of a spinal injury to a baby during a frontal car crash is higher when it is facing forward.

Everyone would prefer to have a peaceful home but many parents believe that this is impossible. After reading the tips in this article you should feel more prepared to have a more tranquil home life and enjoy the short time you do have with your family to a much greater extent.
